Why I love Brené Brown

Okay, if we are going to be honest, I am happy to confess I do not read. I have always struggled to sit and read. However when I do come across certain texts or words that allow me to connect on a deeper level I become passionate about sharing these words with others. So in saying that here are some of Brené Brown's best.

I owe a lot to this lady and I thank her for providing me with a pathway through life and the discovery of wholeheartedness. Thank you Brené Brown.

I'd like to preface this with noting I am not one of those people that chuck a randomly searched quote into the caption of a photo. These quotes truly and deeply have helped me learn, grow, become passionate and most importantly have encouraged self love (one of the hardest struggles of life).

On Vulnerability

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.”

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

“You are imperfect, you are wired for struggle, but you are worthy of love and belonging.”

On Connection

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”

“To love someone fiercely, to believe in something with your whole heart, to celebrate a fleeting moment in time, to fully engage in a life that doesn’t come with guarantees – these are risks that involve vulnerability and often pain. But, I’m learning that recognising and leaning into the discomfort of vulnerability teaches us how to live with joy, gratitude and grace.”

The Gifts of Imperfections, Rising Strong and Daring Greatly

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

Don't Have Time for a Book? Hear Her Speak

Brene Brown has given two TED talks. They're both different, but both allow you to think about the ways in which you can alter your life and yourself to be more open to love, connection and vulnerability. Watch at the links below and allow yourself the mindfulness to change to happen.
