5 THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU TRAVEL
I have been travelling overseas since I was very young. My dad lived in Thailand for 10 years of my childhood and I spent a lot of time exploring different cultures. From my years of experience here are my top 5 recommendations for making the most of your time spent travelling.
1. BE OPEN
I think the most important part of travel is just being ready to grow, change, be challenged, miss a flight (it's happened), meet new people, see the sights and make life long friends. Don't stick to your bubble or comfort zone. Travelling isn't about that.
You are often in a place where no body knows you or your story. There's something incredibly unique about that, make the most of it.
2. TAKE PHOTOS BUT ALSO BE PRESENT
Okay, okay, we are all guilty of taking countless snaps, but does it become too much? Capture enough to share with friends and family but don't see your whole holiday through a lens.
With that being said, embrace the selfie stick. After all how can people be offended about taking photos of their beautiful scenery.
3. IMMERSE YOURSELF IN IT
No one wants to look like an arrogant tourist, right? Understand every culture and society functions differently. I am not going to tell you how to behave but I will say this, don't be a dick head.
4. EAT GOOD FOOD
If you are like me, one of the best things about visiting another country or town is embracing all the delicious food. I am one of those people who searches the menu, and hashtags prior to visiting somewhere. Don't settle for a takeaway sandwich that your mum could have made. Find the hidden gems, they always satisfy.
5. DON'T SLEEP IN
Okay this one's important. The best way to beat jet lag (I have found) is to get straight out and into it. Put it this way; you will always be able to sleep but not always able to see the sights and travel. Get up early, make the most of your day.
